Congressman Introduces New Veteran Support Act

Ted Deutch, a south Florida congressman, wants to help veterans in a huge new way. He, along with Tim Murphy and Brad Schneider, have proposed a bill entitled the “Homeless Veterans Assistance Fund Act”. Deutch and Schneider are Democrats while Murphy is a Republican. This bill would allow citizens to check a box on their tax forms that would ensure that a portion of their taxes would go to support homeless veterans through a congressionally controlled fund. Deutch spoke passionately defending his bill saying that, “A young American’s decision to serve in our Armed Forces should not lead them into poverty and homelessness. With this bill, the American people can help homeless veterans access the crucial services they need by donating directly to a fund overseen by Congress.” This bill already has some bipartisan support so it shall be interesting to see how it progresses through the House and the Senate.
