Florida State Dominates NC State, Bringing Morale Back to Basketball Fans

By AMANDA NEPPL / Staff Writer

The Florida State men’s basketball team swept passed North Carolina State (95-71) last night at one of the team’s last home games of the season.

Johnathan Isaac had a good run with 21 points, drastically higher than his 2 points at the Clemson game. “It is the 6-foot-10 freshman forward’s third game of 20 points or more this season,” reports ESPN in a post-game article. Isaac averages 13 points per game, the second highest to his teammate Dwayne Bacon. “Bacon has scored in double figures in 34 straight games, which is the longest in program history since Alton Lee Gipson in 1984-85,” per ESPN. “It is also the longest current streak in the ACC.”

The ‘Noles and the Wolfpack came close in field goal percentages; Florida State banked nearly 50% while NC State finished with just over 45%. Isaac and Bacon were helped by Phil Cofer and PJ Savoy in making three-point buckets, showing NC State’s the door by making nearly 40% of the shots as opposed to their 23.8%. Among other stats, Florida State finished with 5 steals, 6 blocks, 7 turnovers, and nearly 50 rebounds.

The first half solidified this win for the ‘Noles, and they needed it. After losing to Georgia Tech on January 25th and Syracuse just three days later, it felt as though fans and the team waned; was it time to give up all hope? The ball bounced back to Florida State at their game against Miami last Wednesday, where Miami fans reportedly began to leave – the score finished with Seminoles dominating at 75-57.

After three away games, the ‘Noles were glad to return home. Their mountainous win over Clemson (109-61) is not only representative of their joy to be back at the Civic Center, but also exhibits that they – and we, the fans – have not given up hope. And I doubt we ever will. After all, we are unconquered, aren’t we?

Saturday at 6pm, Florida State faces – once again – Notre Dame at the Purcell Pavilion and Joyce Center; the home of the Fighting Irish.

Florida State is playing Miami at home on Saturday, March 4th at 4pm. Keep a look out for tickets!
