The newly inaugurated President Trump continues to dominate the media and news. A large proportion of this coverage does not show the new commander in chief in a positive light. The most recent story in a sling of negative news sets Trump in the middle of a lawsuit against an ethics group known as Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW). This group is accusing Trump of accepting presents or emoluments from foreign government through hotel payments in violation of the Foreign Emoluments Clause. CREW characterizes itself as a “nonprofit legal watchdog group dedicated to holding public officials accountable for their actions.” An ulterior motive of the case for CREW is to get Trump’s tax records released. However they may run into issues involving a lack of legal standing or proof of harm inflicted on the plaintiff by the defendant. If this cannot be proven than the case will likely be thrown out of court. Regardless of the result of this case the citizens of this nation have shown their discontentment with their leader and it is likely that this will not be the last incident of this nature.
