Early Wednesday night thirteen-year-old Tyree King was fatally shot by police following a reported armed robbery. Three suspects were reported and when officers appeared on scene they found Tyree and two others (whose names have yet to be released). Two of the suspects, including Tyree fled on foot, and, when pursued by police, Tyree produced a BB gun prompting the officers to fire. This incident occurred in Columbus, Ohio at around 7:00 p.m. yesterday. Police procedure dictates that police retreat and then command the suspect to drop the weapon before firing upon a target. However, police officers sometimes react before following procedure. Ohio officers previously came under fire two years ago after the fatal shooting of twelve-year-old Tamir Rice. Police will also receive the mandated counseling that accompanies a shooting and will be placed on a temporary leave of absence. Following the shooting, the other suspect was arrested and later released, pending an investigation. Tyree King was pronounced dead at the hospital at 8:22 p.m.
