“Possible” Malaysia Airlines Conspiracy Theories

by JEANETTE HOROWITZ / news editor

During the frantic search for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight, the masses have been demanding reporting from national news outlets who are receiving little to no information, coming to them in sporadic bursts. However, CNN, NBC, Fox and others still have a 24-hour news cycle to fill. This has resulted in some of the most speculative and nonsensical reporting that has little to no basis in facts at all. So far, we have seen CNN’s Don Lemon and Brad Meltzer speculating whether something “supernatural” and “beyond our understanding” happened to the missing Boeing 777.

With the slow trickle of information that is being provided to news outlets combined with the publics demand for information, conspiracy theories have been popping up left and right. According to Time Magazine, of the conspiracy theories there are five that are gaining the most attention:

  1.      Cell phone rings could mean that the passengers’ phones are still on or are inhabited by ghosts.
  2.      A portal from another world could have sucked up the flight.
  3.       The flight’s disappearance was predetermined and maybe written into the very fabric of the universe.
  4.      The North Koreans hijacked the flight.
  5.      The Illuminati did it.

These types of theories seems to be right on par with our beloved train wreck, Courtney Love who, in a Facebook post last week, thinks she has found the missing airliner based on and oil slick. Good news for the international search teams, Love provided the exact coordinates for whatever she thinks she found.

In keeping with this trend of reporting the craziest conspiracy theories revolving around what might have happened to this missing jet, The Last Word brings you a Top 10 list of what might have happened based on no facts at all from our lovely Arts & Life editor: Rachel Cohen.

Some are real, others are the products of our messed up Arts and Life editor’s imagination
